Alvin Lim is the Chief Executive Officer of Bizlink Centre Singapore Limited, a leading voluntary welfare organisation in Singapore. He leads a workforce of 250 to provide employment for the needy disadvantaged.
Since taking over the helm of Bizlink in January 2006, Alvin successfully restructured the organisation and took Bizlink to greater heights of prominence and productivity. Under the leadership of Alvin, Bizlink Centre has become one of the Singapore’s largest sheltered employer of people with disabilities (PWDS). Bizlink has also expanded sheltered employment to benefit not only PWDs, but also other disadvantaged groups. Currently Bizlink Centre is running 7 social enterprises, providing sheltered employment to over 200 beneficiaries.
Alvin is an accomplished entrepreneur. Apart from his earlier career of holding top key positions in large Japanese, American and Korean multinational corporations, he has the entrepreneur flair in creating businesses from scratch and starting new business divisions in large corporations. He has personally started two private limited companies and an association. Both companies have yielded returns that were multiple times the original invested capital and more significantly, created employment for a number of economically disadvantaged personnel. In fact, Alvin’s business approach towards creating sheltered enterprises is one of Bizlink’s key success factors.
An established and well-respected social entrepreneur, Alvin is a strong advocate of employment as a transformational tool for PWDs and other disadvantaged groups. Being a veteran in the social entrepreneurial scene, Alvin had been invited to speak in numerous forums for aspiring entrepreneurs and both local and overseas institutions such as speaker for DBS Foundation Social Enterprise Summit 2016, Ngee Ann Polytechnic HEROS seminar 2015, Workability Asia Conference 2015, Thailand, keynote speaker for Malaysia’s inaugural national seminar on Productive Welfare 2014, Harvard-NUS Entrepreneurial Exchange program, Singapore Management University, Ministry of Education’s Pre-University Seminar 2014, Global Social Innovation Forum, Lien Centre for Social Innovations, President’s Challenge 2014 Dialogue Session and 2012 International Symposium of Social Enterprises in Taiwan.
