The social enterprises featured in this listing are participants of the 2016 edition of the DBS-NUS Social Venture Challenge Asia – A region wide competition for social enterprises, organised by NUS Enterprise and DBS Foundation. The challenge identifies and supports new social ventures that have the potential to generate positive, scalable and sustainable social impact. From over 1000 entries submitted in 2016 to SVC Asia, the above 120* enterprises have been picked to proceed to the next round of judging, bringing them closer to being one of the top 12 semifinalists of the region. Majority are deemed stronger based on the ratings given by judges, and there is also a special group nominated by Impact Partners of the competition. Evaluation was based on the enterprise’s value proposition; social impact intended, planned or created so far, market potential of the enterprise’s solution, robustness of their economic & financial model as well as the entrepreneur’s self and team strength.
This list has been prepared and presented in good faith and is based on the information provided by the various enterprises in their submission to the SVC Asia. *Due to the significant increase in entries received this year, the organisers have decided to send 120 teams to the next round of judging (instead of 60, as previously planned), to give due consideration to entries that have met the standard for the next round of judging.
